The Covid Dilemma - 07/10/2020
As of yesterday the UK added 14,542 new cases. That is a lot of people being diagnosed with Covid and yet only 76 people died. 76 is more than anyone in there right sensing mind would want but here we are. We know that people in high risk age groups and with co-morbidities like Obestiy and heart disease are most at risk of dying from Covid 19.
Of the 30,049 deaths in the UK 28,643 of these had pre-existing conditions. That is over 95% of cases. ( NHS stats 01/10/2020 )
In context the UK has regularly weekly deaths of greater than 8,000l. This fluctuates depending on the season. In January - height of winter it was 14,000 per week. This is without Covid 19 in the population.
What the government didn't publish is the breakdown of cases by age group. This is the most important data set and one that says the younger age groups are getting the virus but most importantly are not dying.
But we still must protect the elderly and nursing homes by increasing onsite and regular testing.
We must and most importantly advocate a return to a healthier lifestyle. Boris Johnson was obese and at high risk hence his Covid 19 diagnosis. The President of the USA Donald Trump also recently tested positive being obese and in a high risk category.
There has been a lot of talk of recently about Joe Biden winning the US presidency and truth be told on divise rhetoric alone he should walk it in but his health is more a concern right now. He is in a high risk category , has noticeable issues when talking i.e. reading from prepared script so some real concern there. Stay healthy Joe.
The Billion dollar vaccine question. Every single country in the world is planning on a Vaccine to be administered to it's population. Will it happen soon? Everybody hopes so but realistically even if it was available now it would take 6-9 months to inject everyone. Some countries have closed there boarders or have zero cases on the premise that a vaccine is around the corner. Let's hope it is. Meanwhile there economies are on life support with massive injections of QE (quantitative easing ) by there central banks which ultimately leads to higher stock prices.
